Hundreds of residents gathered at both ends of Gaol Ferry Bridge before its re-opening by Mayor Marvin Rees at 5pm on Friday 8th September. When opened, there was a carnival spirit along Gaol Ferry steps, as the drums of the samba band Batala filled the air.
On the same day, the re-opening of Chocolate Path six years after its closure in 2017 was a quieter affair. Cumberland Road is also now open to two-way traffic, at least as far as the unwelcome bus gate at the junction with Gas Ferry Road. Work continues on the railway line alongside Chocolate Path.
