Lower Guinea Street was pedestrianized when the General was converted and the Iron Foundry built. But its status as a pedestrian road was threatened somewhat when the bollards set up to prevent vehicle access were repeatedly damaged and eventually removed. There was nothing to stop traffic using the street to link Commercial Road and Redcliff Hill, avoiuding the Bedminster Bridge roundabout traffic lights. New bollards have now been set up at both ends of Lower Guinea Street and the road should now be free of vehicle traffic.
