Bristol Harbour Activated

Bristol City Council’s ‘Harbour Activated’ initiative is inviting proposals for two areas in Bathurst Basin: W8 Bathurst Basin (the quay along Lower Guinea Street) and the L6 Lower Guinea Street west of the John Sebastian (some distance from Lower Guinea Street – closer to the Commercial Road bridge) .

W8 Bathurst Basin

This site is 80m in length ‘suiting a single large vessel or two smaller vessels’. Previously a ‘no mooring’ quay to allow access for fishing, the quay was the controversial proposed site for the over-large barge, the Ebenhaezer. We hope account will be taken of the many canoeists, kayakers, paddle-boarders that currently use the Basin because there is little boat traffic to disturb them.

L6 Lower Guinea Street

This is an area of 600sqm on the south-western corner of the Basin thought previously to have been a bandstand. The Council suggests that it is ‘also a unique opportunity for occupiers to engage with local residents and contribute to the existing community.’
