Cumberland Road is closed in both directions close to the caravan park entrance. A water-main burst and a section of the New Cut wall has collapsed. The closure affects all vehicles, including Metrobus m2 service and the Airport service A1, which are re-routed along Coronation Road. The pedestrian pavement is open.
A section of Chocolate Path was awaiting repair before the latest collapse. Councillor Kye Dudd is quoted by the BBC as stating that “Over £9m has been allocated to repairs and maintenance of the Cumberland Road wall and Chocolate Path by cabinet.” This further damage to the New Cut wall will doubtless require substantial additional funds.
