Nearly 50 enthusiastic supporters of our ‘sister’ organisation, Friends of the Avon New Cut (FrANC), turned up on the morning of Saturday 11th January for the first of FrANC’s 2020 New Cut clean-ups.In the early months of each year, when the vegetation has died back and before birds and other wildlife start to nest and breed, FrANC organises several systematic clean-ups and maintenance work of the New Cut riverbanks. Later in the year, when the vegetation has grown, additional ‘light’ clean-ups are undertaken as needed.
The first 2020 clean-up covered the south side of the Cut from Gaol Ferry Bridge towards the Bedminster roundabout. After the event, FrANC provided complimentary coffee for volunteers at Mokoko on Gaol Ferry Steps. The second clean-up is planned for 1st February, starting at 10am by Vauxhall Bridge.
