A team from Bristol City Council have been carrying out a ‘pre inspection’ of the bridge close to the Louisiana. There is a regulatory requirement for bridges to be inspected every 6 years. The pre-inspection determines key areas to guide the full inspection to be done later in the year.
The team also explained that there is a work order to resurface the bridge road surface as the tarmac has broken away from the steel plate. The work will require the old material to be stripped away, then the top decking made water proof before laying down new tarmac. They are concerned that if substantial steel plating and decking need to be replaced, then Central Government funding will be required, so work will not start until 2025.
