Homelessness and rough sleeping is a growing problem in all our cities. In Bathurst Basin the homeless have sought shelter under the road bridge to the west of the Basin. Homelessness has many causes but those sleeping rough all need help.
We have advised the police and the Harbour Master of homeless individuals sheltering on the edge of the Basin but more can be done to help. If you see homeless individuals in the Basin, you can help put social services in touch with them through StreetLink. Their website explains how it works:
“The details you provide are sent to the local authority or outreach service for the area in which you have seen the person, to help them find the individual and connect them to support. It is important to note that if you think the person you are concerned about is under 18 please do not contact StreetLink but instead call the police.”
