We understand that Sousta Limited are seeking a licence for a restaurant in Unit 9, Lower Guinea Street. Sousta Mediterranean Restaurant and Bar was previously located on Clarence Road. Those premises have been demolished.
Sousta Limited is seeking to permission to:
- Sell alcohol for consumption on and off the premises;
- Host live music and vocal performances;
- Offer late night refreshments.
Residents living around Bathurst Basin are particularly concerned that Sousta are seeking permission for live music and vocal performances on the premises from 5pm to midnight, Mondays to Sundays. Sousta are seeking permission for recorded music from 10am to midnight. And these hours are extended beyond midnight on bank holidays, Valentines Day and New Years eve.
Written representations had to be made by 12th March 2025. We are concerned that the notice appeared at very short notice in a blue transparent folder difficult to read behind the dirty glass front door of the property to be used. Residents around the Basin are unaware of this licensing application.
The Licensing Authority will consider the application at 12:45pm on 3rd April at the City Hall.
When residents on Bathurst Parade and those living on boats were concerned with music from Paco Tapas, the following conditions were imposed on the license:
- Music shall not be played at a level that will cause unreasonable disturbance to the occupants of any properties in the vicinity.
- No speakers for amplification of music or speech shall be placed on the outside the premises.
- Except for access and egress all external doors and windows shall be kept closed during periods of live music, karaoke or DJ’s playing recorded music.
We hope that the same conditions are imposed on Sousta’s licence, should it be granted.
