According to Bristol 24/7 the historic railway cutting along the side of Guinea Street is now available to let. The cutting has been used as a car park since 1973. In 2018, the owner, Hugh Pratt, considered building 44 apartments above the car park but did not pursue the idea. The cutting owner has a legal requirement to maintain vehicle access to the tunnel to the east, allowing Network Rail to maintain the tunnel or even to infill it if necessary. Hugh Pratt then unsuccessfully sought planning permission to remove the mature ash tree on the bank above the tunnel entrance claiming it has ash die-back. His reason for removing this healthy tree was never clear.
