Application to fell trees

There has been an application from Dr Pratt to fell five ash trees on the bank of the Avon New Cut along Commercial Road (our main image). We have objected to this application. A previous application involving the removal of these trees was made by Bristol City Council as part of a deal with Dr Pratt when land was acquired by the Council to facilitate the Metrobus route. The trees were to be removed to make way for additional security fencing but no reason was given for the need for additional fencing on this site. A decision on the security fencing application has yet to be announced. In this latest application no reason is given for the felling of trees which are subject to a Tree Preservation Order – for example there is no mention of ash dieback.

There is a total lack of trust in this application because the owner of the Marchioness applied unsuccessfully to develop a replica marine jetty on this site even though there has been no marine traffic for many years. We wonder whether the real purpose for removing the trees is to build a platform for additional car parking space for rental.

Comments can be submitted on the Council’s planning search page. The planning application’s number is 23/00619/VC.
