Ebenhaezer in dry dock

Friends of Bathurst Basin was formed as a community group in May 2019 to stop Bristol City Council from moving a sizeable barge, the Ebenhaezer, to a mooring along the Lower Guinea Street quay of Bathurst Basin. The Ebenhaezer was a house boat with a residential mooring on the quayside alongside the derelict O & M Sheds on Welsh Back. The developer of the Sheds planned a new food and music venue called BOXHALL, featuring seven kitchens with food from local restaurants and street food traders. They asked for the Ebenhaezer to be moved so that a seating area could be placed over the harbour. In July 2019 the barge owner agreed to sell the vessel and relinquish the mooring licence. The Ebenhaezer was moved to temporary mooring close to Bristol Bridge where it remained until 12th December 2024 when it was towed to the Albion Dock Company’s dry dock close to Brunel’s Great Britain. Our image above shows its final mooring before being broken up or re-sold.

There has been little movement in the BOXHALL development and there is no sign of the cantilevered decking at the site where the Ebenhaezer was originally moored (image below).
