The Local Government Boundary Commission has proposed changes to Bristol’s electoral boundaries. The aim is three-fold:
- Improving electoral equality by equalising the number of electors that each councillor represents.
- Ensuring that the recommendations reflect community identity.
- Providing arrangements that support effective and convenient local government.
The Commission is conducting a review of Bristol City Council as its last review was completed in 2015 and they are required to review the electoral arrangements of every council in England ‘from time to time’. The proposals were subject to consultation until 6th September 2026 and their final recommendations will be published on 1st December 2026.
The new boundary, which takes Merchants Landing back into the Hotwells and Harbourside ward, re-unites Spike Island. The General and the Iron Foundry remain in the Central Ward. It is not clear which ward includes the boat owners. Are those on the Bathurst Parade quay in the Hotwells and Harbourside ward (as the map suggests) and other boats in the Central? We shall hopefully find out when the boundaries are published.
