Work around the Basin

Work around Bathurst Basin has aroused the curiosity of residents.

Commercial Road drains

Earlier this year we reported initial engineering works to improve the drainage on Commercial Road. This was to repair a 2 metre section of broken drainage pipe. On Wednesday 21st August 2024 , the team were back to open the drain and carry out more work (our featured image). Let’s hope this is the end of frequent floods on this section of Commercial Road, affectionately known to residents as ‘Lake Bathurst’.

Underground radar survey

On 3rd July, residents may have seen a person pushing a strange trolley backwards and forwards along Commercial Road (left image) and then spraying signs on the pavement alongside the New Cut (right image). He was from a consultancy organisation carrying out an underground radar survey for Bristol City Council to determine where the utility systems were located so the Council could then plant some new trees.
